The Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) Coordinator plays a pivotal role in Errigal College, aiming to improve educational outcomes for students who may be at risk of educational disadvantage.

The overall goal is to maximise student attendance, participation, and retention by strengthening the link between the home, the school, and the community. This is primarily achieved by working with other stakeholders, including ‘School Completion Programme’ SCP, ‘Educational Welfare Officer’ (EWO), parents and guardians, teachers, community groups, and local agencies.

The HSCL Coordinator facilitates this by conducting home visits to address specific barriers to a student’s engagement in education, organising programs like parenting courses, adult education opportunities, parent-teacher meetings and generally encouraging parental involvement at every opportunity in their child’s education. Their work builds trust and partnership, ensuring that parental involvement is recognised as an essential to student success.
