First Year Induction

Inspiration, educational, carefully and strategically designed so as to maximise on providing a positive experience for the students.

The transition from Primary to Post Primary takes place at the time of greatest change in a person’s life and is therefore essential that it is navigated and managed to ensure the best possible experience for the child moving into adolescence. Our Transition program is modelled on best practice. It is inclusive, engaging, informative, educational and respectful at every level.

The induction is designed to run over three days.

Each day begins and ends with the principal, deputy principal, and year head meeting the students. The induction coordinator, Ms. Mc Ateer, ensures that the days run smoothly and efficiently and is on hand at all times to address any concerns or issues.

Day 1:

The focus of Day 1 is informed by the knowledge that the first steps into a new school can be a difficult experience for young minds.

We ensure that Day 1 is structured around:

  • Team Building
  • Fun Activities
  • Interactive games
Day 2:

We encourage the students to take a look back, to reflect on their primary school days and the students are invited to write a letter to their primary school teacher, saying what it is they will miss about school and what they are looking forward to being involved in at Errigal College. Their letters are then placed in a predesigned time capsule and they will read these again in their Leaving Certificate year.

We ensure that Day 2 is structured around:

  • Friendship
  • Self-esteem
  • Personal Management
  • A tour of the School
Day 3:

We introduce the students to the managerial aspects of their new school life:

We ensure that Day 2 is structured around:

  • Minding their books
  • Using their lockers
  • Understanding their time-table

Time is then given over to the students to mention any concerns or questions they may have. The day finishes with fun activities led by our school completion team and PE department.
