Errigal College is celebrating the announcement that three of its talented students, including
two brothers, have been awarded highly sought-after scholarships to support their third-level
education. Malachi and Benjamin, brothers, along with classmate Michael are rejoicing this
week after being selected as recipients of two very special scholarship programmes. These
scholarships reflect the academic excellence, dedication, and hard work of both the students
and the entire school community.
Malachi has been successfully selected for the prestigious Ireland Health Care Scholarship
which is funded by the United Health Foundation and supported by Optum Ireland. The aim
of the scholarship programme is to support students from underrepresented and
socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds and communities who want to pursue
healthcare and tech courses at third level. Malachi, who studied Computer Science at Errigal
College, will continue his studies in Software Development at ATU Sligo with the support of
this scholarship. Optum Ireland, a key supporter of Errigal College, also sponsored the
school’s state-of-the-art STEM lab, which is vital to delivering subjects like Leaving Cert
Computer Science.
In addition to Malachi’s success, two more Errigal College students, Benjamin and Michael,
were selected as recipients of the George Moore Scholar programme. This award provides
financial compensation to help them on their university journey. Michael will study a Bachelor
of Arts in English & History at the University of Limerick, while Benjamin will pursue a
Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Software Development at Atlantic Technological
University, Sligo.
Errigal College Principal, Mr. Danny McFadden, expressed his pride in the students, stating,
“These scholarship awards are a testament to the hard work and commitment of Malachi,
Benjamin, and Michael. Their success is a reflection of the fantastic academic results we
have seen this year, which are due in no small part to the dedication of our students, their
families, and the incredibly supportive and caring staff at Errigal College. We are immensely
proud of their achievements.”
Mr. McFadden also highlighted how Errigal College continues to embrace the core values of
the ETB: care, equality, community, respect, and excellence in education. “These values are
at the heart of everything we do. Errigal College provides amazing opportunities for all our
students, and these scholarships are just one example of how we continue to support and
encourage their academic and personal growth.”
As the students prepare to embark on their next chapter, the entire Errigal College
community celebrates their success and looks forward to seeing them make their mark in
their respective fields. This achievement underscores Errigal College’s commitment to
fostering a learning environment where all students can thrive and achieve their full potential.
