Errigal College, Letterkenny, has marked the retirement of three valued members of its school community, Ms Maggie McAteer, Mrs Margaret Russell-Kelly and Mr Vincent McGlynn, who together have contributed approximately 81 years of service to the school.
Maggie McAteer retires after 24 years at Errigal College, having joined the school in 2002. A dedicated teacher of Music and Religious Education, she developed the Music Department from humble beginnings into one of the school’s flagship departments, establishing Junior and Leaving Certificate Music and leading choirs, concerts and productions. She also helped establish important school traditions and strengthened links between the school, families and the wider community through her work as Home School Community Liaison Coordinator.
Margaret Russell-Kelly retires after 37 years at Errigal College, having joined Letterkenny Vocational School in 1989. Throughout her career, she made a significant contribution to teaching and school leadership. As the school’s first CSPE Coordinator, she promoted active citizenship and student participation. Her leadership work included school development planning, budget management, establishing the Book Rental Scheme and developing positive behaviour and student support systems.
Vincent McGlynn retires after 20 years as caretaker, having joined Errigal College in 2006. He has been a valued member of the school community, contributing to the upkeep of the school and supporting its smooth day-to-day operation.
In acknowledging their retirement, Principal Mr Danny McFadden paid tribute to their commitment and service:
“Maggie, Margaret and Vincent have each made a significant contribution to Errigal College. Their dedication, professionalism and commitment to our school community have been greatly appreciated. Their work has helped shape the experiences of generations of students and colleagues, and we are grateful for the lasting contribution each has made. We wish them every happiness in their retirement.”
Errigal College extends its sincere thanks to Maggie, Margaret and Vincent for their many years of service and wishes them all the very best for the next chapter of their lives.
