Special Needs Assistants Noreen McGeever, Phyllis McCarry, Yvonne Lynch, Roseanne Boyle, Mary Stewart, Anthony Sheridan, Kathleen Whoriskey, Helen Doherty & Angela Doherty. Special Needs Assistants are allocated to post primary schools following application to the Special Educational Needs Officer (SENO) to provide care assistance to named students who have special educational needs. They make a valuable contribution to the capacity of the school to provide inclusive education for these students. They work closely with the teachers providing assistance to students in their care, for example in the areas of personal care, supporting mobility, or supervising work or recreation activities. In Errigal College we currently have a total of seven SNA’s who support a number of our students with Special Educational Needs. Their duties are assigned by our principal, acting of behalf of the VEC and their work here is supervised by an Assistant Principal. Whilst the work of our Special Needs Assistants is important their help should be balanced against the student’s needs to develop independence and to gain access to education in the same way as the other students in the school. We, here in Errigal College recognize the importance of the integration of students with special needs in the normal school environment and ensure that our special needs assistants, whilst carrying out their role do not serve to segregate the student with special needs from their classmates. Our School Canteen
Think back to when you were at school. Long time ago eh? Your memories are made up of all kinds of everything – playing football at lunchtime, chatting to the girls at break-time, sitting fascinated in some classes and bored in others… We all remember good and bad things when we remember our school days. There are only a few things that we all have good memories of, and the school canteen is one of the best. Back in my day, the school canteen was good. Now, in Errigal College, the school canteen is excellent. Built back in 2003, the canteen is bright and airy, and always has a happy atmosphere. There is always the buzz of happy students chatting and laughing and eating. Our canteen is run by Nuala Higgins and her smiling staff.
Apart from being a lovely bright place to go at break-times, the school canteen also has food glorious food! The menu includes baked potatoes and mashed potatoes, fruits, yoghurts, curries, shepherd’s pie, pasta including lasagne, soups and sandwiches… and so much more. There are so many choices available. And the drinks available include fruit juices, still water, sparkling water, flavoured water, tea, coffee and hot chocolate. The menu is simply made up of good and healthy food and is very affordable for students.
